A note to my September calculus students
Please e-mail me a note. (check the end of year handout or a precalc calendar for my e-mail address). I don’t know if we will use e-mail or on-line resources during the school year, but I would like to collect your addresses, in case.
Sorry for not having considered this earlier. But for those of you who don’t see this, or see it late, no harm done; we won’t be doing anything with them before school is back in session.
SAT Math Level 2 Prep
The College Board’s book is cheap ($10 at Amazon, you’ll probably find it in a bookstore). It is thin (just two practice tests), but that’s ok
If you want more problems, you can try Barron’s. (also cheap, $8 at Amazon). Might not be a bad idea if you are actually going to sit for the exam, but it is more than I require.
Summer Assignment (First Draft)
Attached is the paper that was handed out Thursday, June 16. It includes information about the June assignment (final exam review sheet), the two mandatory summer assignments (SAT 2 Math 2 Prep and Gross videos), and the two optional summer assignments (Khan videos, Gelfand Chapters).
Also, this is the main link to the Gross videos. You’ll have to navigate to the Course Introducton, and then to Part 1, lectures 1, 2, and 3 (Analytic Geometry, Functions, Inverse Functions)
Calculus Summer Work
… will be posted in the coming days. It will include:
- Instructions for preparing for the SAT II Math 2 (required)
- Watching 4 introductory videos and taking notes (required)
- Watching brush up videos (optional)
- Reading, taking notes, and completing exercises from a brief volume by I. M. Gelfand (optional)
In the meantime, you should complete or revise the precalculus Final Exam Review Sheet. Your best work (complete, and accurate) is due Monday, June 27.
